A Journey of Discovery

 to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

May 3rd-7th 2019

We are glad to encourage the youth across Europe to discover Jerusalem !

Our Discovery Trip will include interactions and meetings with some very promising researchers making incredible new discoveries in such exciting fields as bio engineering, nanotechnology, brain research and AI. We will also meet researchers trying to keep us healthy and developing solutions for the challenges facing our world and environment. The weekend includes a day filled with activities in Jerusalem aimed at gaining a better understanding of the multiple facets of the city. Please see the full program below.

 

The cost of the program has been significantly sponsored by some of our Swiss Friends. Please note that availability is limited for a small group of people of 40 years old and younger. The package price is per person and includes accommodation for 4 nights, local transportation and all meals & visits. The package price does not include flights.

DAY 1: Friday, May 3rd

DAY 2: Saturday, May 4th

Discovering the Many Facets of Jerusalem: the Holy, Historic, Contentious and Celebrated City

A day of tours, lectures, meetings & discussions: Overview of the City – Walking the Old City ramparts, Visiting the Temple Mount/ Haram al-Sharif, Touring East and West Jerusalem neighbourhoods, encounters with the inhabitants with Hebrew University lecturers and researchers. Lunch in the Old City.

DAY 3: Sunday, May 5th

Jerusalem’s Hub of Innovation & Scientific Discovery: The Edmond J. Safra Campus

The Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences: Visit this unique Center and understand your brain in a way you never thought you could. Meet with world leaders in computational neuroscience and with our bright young researchers.

The Alexander Grass Center for Bio-engineeringHow can we produce meat without killing animals? Can we reproduce human cells on a chip? At this futuristic center you will meet researchers and students and learn more about innovative medical devices and advanced computational models.

Nano-science and Nanotechnology: The new revolutionary force for industrial and economic development in the 21st century is Nanotechnology.

Working Lunch with ‘HUJI Innovate’, Hebrew University's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Israel has developed more high-tech start-ups than all of Europe in recent years. Find out how it is done at the university.

Visit ‘Lightricks’ one of the most promising HU-Alumni start-up companies. It develops apps for smartphones and won awards by Apple for the best application three times, in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

The Rachel and Selim Benin School of Computer Science & Engineering: Computer vision, speech analysis, pattern recognition and robotics; computer-aided surgery and medical image processing; cryptography and computer security; etc.

Meeting & Dinner with Glocal Faculty & Students: GLOCAL – HU’s International Community Development MA Program, translating academic research into practical work with communities and development organizations across the globe.

 

 

DAY 4: Monday, May 6th

At the forefront of Medical Research & Treatment Advancements, the Ein Kerem Campus, home to HU’s Faculty of Medicine. Labs visits displaying cutting-edge research:

  • Discover the Cannabis Revolution
  • Learn the most advanced studies about “cancer research”: What are stem cells therapies? Do they really work? How?

  • Military and Trauma Medicine, ‘Tzameret’ program: Meet the young people who joined the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) to be a part of the country’s one and only elite Military Medical corp.

  • International Masters in Public Health (IMPH): Get a chance to meet some of the students and share their experience

 

The Rehovot Campus - Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment: New Approaches to Feeding the World & Safeguarding our Waters & the Environment

DAY 5: Tuesday, May 7th
